Outreach PWP

COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITTEE

The Outreach PWP Community Service Committee works with small not-for-profit organizations in New York City whose budgets do not allow for photography for promotion or public relations.

The PWP Community Service Committee’s first volunteer partnership, in 2007-2008, was with University Settlement House, located on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Founded in 1886, it is the oldest settlement house in the country, dedicated to improving the life circumstances of low-income people and the communities. They serve over 20,000 people annually, providing many community services including childcare, housing assistance, mental health services, college/career preparation, senior services and after-school programs.

The committee’s successful year-long partnership with University Settlement House resulted in its 2008 exhibit, University Settlement: A Year in Pictures at the Houston Street YMCA.

2008-2009 - Learning Leaders recruits, trains and supports up to 10,000 school volunteers to work with over 230,000 students (over one-fifth of the New York City public school population), in over 800 schools throughout the five boroughs.

Outreach PWP’s support of Learning Leaders culminated in an exhibition of photographs at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in connection with a Learning Leaders event.

2009-2010, - Women in Need (“WIN”) provides housing, help and hope to New York City women and their families who are homeless and disadvantaged. They support comprehensive programs such as shelter, supportive permanent housing, job training, domestic violence services, alcohol and substance abuse treatment and childcare. WIN offers the tools and guidance to allow families to return to their communities and live independently.

Outreach PWP was WIN’s Volunteer Group of the Year in recognition of PWP’s service and dedication in making a difference in the lives of families served by WIN’s programming. (This paragraph Bold Italic)

2011-2012, - The Food Bank For New York City has, for the past 27 years, been the city's major hunger-relief organization with a mission to end hunger in New York City by organizing food, information and support for community survival and dignity.
