Photographer Virginia Sandman likes to think that some things you cannot speak about, and they must be consigned to the silent realm.
The black and white photographs are developed and printed using darkroom processes. They are informed by a layperson’s interest in world religions, philosophy and certain aspects of physics.
She is concerned with the questions of who are we, where are we from, how do we know what we know? Some of the work embraces a wider scope of abstract forms and social justice. The artist’s experience with sculpture, video installations, film and performance art influence the photographic outcomes.
