close Artist’s Statement on the Layered Image In my recent photographic work I use the layered image to encourage viewers to look beyond, to interrupt and to react to the image on multiple levels. After mastering photographic techniques, process has become secondary for me. Now, like a dancer or musician who practices for years so that movement becomes seemingly effortless, I feel free to create from the heart focusing on what visually excites and causes an internal reaction. Creating a trans-layered image has become my dance of the senses, as I look deeper into what’s within and around me. My goal is for the image to grasp the subconscious emotions that reveal universal human insights. - Katherine Criss -
