Lesley A. Martin - Creative Director for Aperture Foundation & Publisher, The PhotoBook Review

Lesley A. Martin is creative director of the Aperture Foundation and publisher of The PhotoBook Review. Her writing on photography has been published in ApertureFOAM, and IMA magazine, among other publications, and she has edited over one hundred books of photography, including LaToya Ruby Frazier: A Notion of FamilyRinko Kawauchi: IlluminanceStephen Shore: Selected Works; and Zanele Muholi: Somnyama Ngonyama. In 2012, she cofounded the Paris Photo–Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards. Martin has curated exhibitions that have traveled both nationally and internationally, including Mickalene Thomas: MuseThe Ubiquitous Image; and Aperture Remix, a commission-based exhibition celebrating Aperture’s sixtieth anniversary. She is currently a visiting critic at the Yale University School of Art.

 

In terms of what I will be addressing, I’m going to do a little introduction to Aperture and what we’re up to today, before talking more in detail about the contemporary landscape of photobook publishing and tips on how to develop a personal book project.
