What deterines a "body of work"? How do we find themes within our many images that could be developed into a body of work? How can a "body of work" have several lives and variations to make it concise and useable to a large audience (books, galleries, editorial, websites and social media, and more).
It is difficult to create work in a vacuum, and it is invaluable to gain feedback on works in progress. Within the atmosphere fo seriousness and constructive criticism of PWP peers and fellow photographers, this workshop is designed for those who have created a new body of work as well as those looking for guidance on how to edit and further develop an existing body of work.
Participants should bring in recent completed projects or works-in-progress (digitally and in print) for editing as well as to receive feedback on shooting new work for inclusion in a project or body of work. Each person shoudl bring in no more than 20 images and have prepared a statement on goals for the work (no more than 5 minutes presentation). If you have a gallery prepared on a website or similiar on-line platform, you might want to show as part of your 5 minute presentation other creative ideas. The day has to be organized so each particpant has equal time.
The workshop is highly interactive, participants will be expected to have a clear idea of what they want to achieve. Everyone's project(s) will be reviewed and discussed, both technically and conceptually, through a group critique.
Workshop Goals:
- finding the core of a story, sequencing and identifying key images
- creating narratives, editing photo stories for different audiences
- help identify immediate and long-term goals
- help articulate ideas and concepts for writing artist statements & project descriptions
- help provide better visibility and opportunities to share work
- collaborate with others
