Story Behind the Shot
PWP Member Sharron Crocker shares two photographs and the stories behind them. 1. Cardinal In 2009 I bought my first DSLR – a Canon Rebel – and my first long lens – a Tamron 18-270 – to start photographing birds.  In August of 2009 my husband died suddenly in an accident.  It took me several years to get back into life, and bird photography was a big part of my recovery. It got me out of the house, into the country and into Central Park, where I spent much needed time with nature.  By going into the park regularly I started to make new friends who also shared a passion for birds.  I now have a bird network – we share information and even [continue reading...]

Photograph and Story by PWP Member Claudia Schellenberg On the day I made this photo, we visited several workshops in villages outside of Cuenca in Ecuador, where people create and sell their crafts. The young woman pictured forms tiny figures from clay. She paints them when dry and adds props to create miniature scenes from daily life. I was particularly impressed by her intensity and concentration as she worked on a man for one of her street scenes. My favorite scene on her shelf was a woman selling flowers, complete with miniature blossoms from paper.  I couldn’t resist the purchase, and her work, which you see here, now sits on my shelf at home.  [Click on "Story Behind the Shot"title to [continue reading...]
