Volume 5 | Issue 2 | Summer 2010
Greetings from the Board
We hope all of you are having a great summer. Although we have no monthly meetings scheduled during July and August the board and all the committees have been busy preparing for the 2010-2011 season. PWP Exhibitions are in planning as are the speakers for each month and IMPRINTS is being set up for press.
We are looking forward to another banner year and want to welcome all of our new members.
The Board
The Exhibitions Committee has a number of future projects in the works and always welcomes PWP member volunteers. It is a great way to learn about jurying and curating as well as forging great friendships within the organization. Contact Katie Mantell if you are interested atexhibitions@pwponline.org

Check out the ad below.SEPTEMBER MONTHLY MEETINGon 9/15/2010The 2010-2011 PWP Monthly meetings will be held on the first Wednesday of the month at St. Paul’s Church on West 59th Street. PLEASE NOTE – because the first Wednesday in September is before Labor day and the second is in conflict with the Jewish Holidays our September meeting will be WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 15, 2010. We plan another exciting year of guest lecturers and programs so please mark your calendars and make the PWP meeting a priority. We will kick off the season this year with guest speaker Anja Hitzenberger, a photographer, filmmaker and video artist whose work focuses on the body and its relationship to architecture and space. CURTAIN RAISERSEach month the PWP meeting opens with a curtain raiser – a PWP member who has the opportunity to show 10 images to the group. It is a lot of fun and a great way to get your images “out there” with our members and guests as the audience. Our Program Director Ruth Gitto is looking for member curtain raisers for the months of October, November, February and March. They have done a fantastic job lining up speakers for the conference, planned to coincide with Women’s History Month 2011. The event, which will be open to the public, is scheduled for Saturday, March 26, 2011. The committee is working on an attractive admission price that will be enhanced even more with a PWP member discount. The program at this point includes:
We are also planning to present the first “Danny” award (in honor of PWP founder, Danielle Hayes) at the conference. The 2010 award recipient will be photographer Suzanne Opton for for her combination of exceptional creative ability and how she uses that ability to contribute to community consciousness. To make the conference a reality, PWP needs to offset costs and is seeking sponsors and exhibitors for this unique photography event. WE NEED YOUR HELP! If you know of any photography-related business that would be interested in receiving a sponsorship solicitation package, please contact Fran Dickson (committee chair) at fdickson@mindspring.com or Terry Berenson atdevelopment@pwponline.org as soon as possible. AUGUST IS MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL MONTH
RESPONSE TO CUBA TRIP OVERWHELMINGThe response to the survey asking for members’ interest in a PWP custom-designed photography trip to Cuba was overwhelmingly positive. The development committee is moving forward with plans to offer one or two trips of 20 people each in October 2011. PWP members will be given priority during enrollment and available space will then be made available to non members. In addition there will be a discount for PWP members only. The tour organizer, a long-time close friend of member Joan Tedeschi, is on the board of an organization that raises money for Cuban artists and has been creating organized cultural tours to Cuba for over eight years. This trip will be within the guidelines of the Federal Government. Details and pricing will be announced as soon as they are finalized.
